Do you remember when our prime minister disappeared? Having been born in 1960, I was thinking back on some of the things which stuck in my mind growing up in the sixties. Apart from being the only kid in my street who had a television I remember firstly listening on the radio to the disappearance of our prime minster Harold Holt in 1967 he was never found but thought to have drowned. Then to seeing the images of the both Kennedy assassinations which took a couple of days before they reached our tv screens to see the images of what had happened. Then the amazing day the first man walked on the moon, I was sitting there with hundreds of kids at school watching this black and white tv in the school hall. Sunday nights were Disneyland and the Mickey Mouse Club other regular shows for kids were Humphrey B Bear, Play School, Magic Circle Club - do you remember who the clown was in the magic Circle Club?  Mr Squiggle was another favourite all these great shows many of the great Australian productions for kids. Night time TV King was Graham Kennedy with his show IMT with Burt Newton as his sidekick and the detective show Homicide was huge favourite of my mum. Do you remember the American series of Combat, Gomer Pyle. Petticoat Junction and Beverley Hillbillies? to name a few. These were some of the influences in our lives in the sixties. Compared to today’s internet we were quite boring but there were enormous talents that emerged in those times including The Beatles even the kids of today know who they are.
